In our last entry we looked at some tips to make your rituals and ceremonies extra powerful. In this follow-up post, we look at a few more suggestions that should make you much more comfortable at working within sacred ceremony.
First off, the delivery and performance of your ceremony does not have to be perfect. Every word and action has an effect, even if they are not completed with complete accuracy and intent. You are still communicating your will and desires to the Spirit World, even if your focus sometimes drifts. So don’t start thinking that your are not being effective just because your mind sometimes wanders, as that belief can be discouraging and counter-productive.
Next, “bodily noises” are all right! Stomach rumblings, burps, hiccups, and “other” noises while delivering ritual are natural. You don’t have to feel bad about them. The spirits know that we are human. We are consciousness embodied in this particular vessel. And occasionally this kind of vessel makes noises. It is perfectly acceptable and allowable. You don’t have to restart a ritual just because of a little literal hiccup!
Finally, performing ritual is not like following an instruction manual for putting together furniture. It is not enough to just go through the steps. The individual steps are not what imparts the magick. Rather, you must feel the intention and will behind each step. You must “feel” why you are performing each step, and have the meaning of the action in mind. For instance, in kitchen magick, it is not enough to simply add a cup of rice for an abundance spell. Rather, as you add the cup of rice you must have the meaning of the act (i.e. imparting abundance as symbolized by the rice) in mind as you perform the action. So don’t just go through the motions. Be very clear in your mind about why you are performing each step, and visualize it’s symbolic and spiritual meaning.
